    "swell" diving

I was in Sodwana and stayed with Triton Divers in their bush camp.
The diving was spectacular, but mostly because of the swells that were throwing the divers 4 meters in every direction, good bouyancy control is a must.
The downside of the swell was that there wasn't much fish around and visability was limited but I still can recommend the experience to everybody. I did learn that the swell was not usually this much, so depending from which way you look at it, I was (un-)lucky
Much of the review for Coral divers is the same for Triton, very friendly but not overly involved after diving, with the exception of Peter, the owner, with whom I spend quite a few hours in the bar after 10PM when everybody else went to bed.
The atmosphere in the camp is very relaxed, only self catering but they do have a stocked bar, simply write down whatever you're drinking and pay when you leave. Meals mostly consist of "braai", for which the camp has a nice fire place. They stoke up a big fire, you take one of the grill meshes, scoop out the coals from the big fire and presto. Diners are a very cosy occasion this way.
I went with a divecenter, www.ugi.co.za, who arranged all for me and came recommended by a good friend.
All in all, cost was 2000 rand for 6 dives, 4 nights including meals and transportation from Johannesburg (a 7 hour drive!), but that price was based on our group of 8 persons. |
