Revisiting Tao and surrounding Islands after a trip in 1993 was rather extreme. As Samui was already touristy back then, Ko Tao nowadays is just as “bad”. Advantages are, of course, that prices drop due to competition between the approx 70 (!) dive centres. Drawback is the many boats, especially if a whale shark is sighted. Other advantages or drawback, depending on your perspective, is the relatively good tourist facilities that are available nowadays (e.g. internet, video’s, western food). Luckily, good traditional Thai food is still available.
