Beaked whales are the least known of all whales in the world. Most of the information comes from dead animals washed ashore and a few brief encounters at sea. Some species have never been seen alive. However, according to quite a few oceanic cetacean specialists it is likely a number of beaked whales inhabit the waters around Manado and therefore could be spotted. We have never seen them yet but we always have an eye open for them. Species that might be in this area are: Cuvier’s beaked whale(most likely), Blainville’s beaked whale, Ginkgo-toothed beaked whale. There are may be 2 or 3 more species present in our tropical waters, but they are only known from found skulls and unidentified sightings at sea.
