Divestart FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Category: Main -> Add / Delete / Change information

You want to add information but your country is not listed?

If that is the case, then we might have judged wrongly about diving in your country. This is no problem however, since we can simply add your country, so you can add divebases. Just email us and we'll take care of it.

 Add a divebase

Make sure you are logged in! Your browser needs to accept cookies otherwise it won't work. If it says "welcome guest" in the top right hand corner after logging in, something went wrong. Please note that the password is case sensitive!
You can add a divebase by going to the respective country or region of a country. There you can click "add divebase" from the submenu. Please provide any information as realistically as possible. It might be tempting to exaggerate some details, but this will not benefit anyone in the long term. Not the people visiting the area, based on this information, nor the dive operators there, since they will not be able to live up to the expectation.

 Add marinelife / a divesite / a divecenter.

Make sure you are logged in!
These can only be added to a divebase. Go to the respective divebase and click the relevant link in the submenu. Please be conservative in your estimates regarding the probability of encountering a marinelife species.

 Add a review

All registered users can add reviews. The information on this site has to be referenced by actual user experiences. Therefore we highly appreciate any user review based on actual experience. Please be as specific as possible on the situation that you describe and the period and circumstances under which you were there.

 Adding information (do's and don'ts)

We have to have some rules on adding information, otherwise it will become a mess, despite all good intentions of everyone. Stick to this and all will be fine:
- Don't use ALL CAPITALS for titles, names etc. You won't get extra attention for what you write. Most probably we will change them anyway to small caps and once we get bored with that, we will just delete the information. So please help us and write normal sentence style.
- Be as specific as possible. Comments like "We are the best dive school in town" will not make it to the database. And say for yourself... doesn't everybody claim that? Better is to state why your are really different from others. Think about different courses, accommodation etc.
- Be as realistic as possible. Overstating the probability of animals being around, will not get you extra divers, but will get you divers that are very disappointed. Only realistic information will help the diving community.
- Be as complete as possible. Please provide all the information you can think of. It's maybe just a little bit of effort on your side, but will be worth a lot for divers checking your info.
- Use common sense. Then we'll all be fine.
- Know that we greatly appreciate your help and input. A lot of divers will benefit from it and be able to dive with great creatures, who in their turn will benefit from the attention, which will (hopefully) help them survive because of their importance for tourism.

 Delete or Change information

For reasons of integrity our system does not allow registered users to delete or change any information in the database (yet). We do this to avoid people accidentally changing or deleting information that might affect the information that other dive operators have added. If multiple dive operators have a different interpretation on some information in one area, they will might keep changing it. Therefore we gladly accept any changes that you'd like to see in the data by email to info[a]divestart.com (replace "[a]" with a @ symbol!). For this same reason we don't let registered users delete any information. If you want something deleted, simply email us, and we'll do it for you.
