Description:
This (still) relatively sleepy beachtown offers access to cave diving in the famous Cenotes. The crystal clear waters with an average visibility of over 100 metres and the stalagtites create a spectacular environment. The cave systems hold fresh water and extend to over 10 kilometers in length. Cave diving is recommended for experienced divers only and although a cave diving specialty is not required for the widest cenotes, it's definitively recommended for the smaller ones.
It's possible to go reef diving off Tulum as well.
Tulum consists of two main areas, the town center and the zona hoteleria at the beach. The town has a couple of good bars and restaurants and is easily accessed by the 1st and 2nd class buses from Cancun via Playa del Carmen.
