 Coastal fish & Reef Life
Rarotonga offers a large selection of Reef fish both on the outer reef and in in the surrounding lagoon.
 Eagle rays
The spotted eagle ray is the only ray to be found around Rarotonga
 Great Hammerhead sharks
The hammerheads are seen predominately on the east, south and west sides of the island. They mainly swim around by themselves, but will occassionally swim in schools. Around 40 hammerheads have been seen in one school. While diving they will normally approach the divers, swim around them once before... (More)
 Green turtles
Some of the most amazing close encounters with turtles I have ever experienced. They never seem particularly bothered by human scuba divers!
 Grey reef sharks
Grey reef sharks can be found in schools at dive sites on the southern side of Rarotonga. It is the main schooling shark here and no we do not feed them, it is all a natural show.
 Humpback whales
Cook Island Divers is in constant contact with the Whale Research, Cook Islands - finding out where the whales are, spotting the whales, retrieving DNA samples, etc. 2003 season saw over 150 different Humpbacks come through Rarotongan waters.
 Moray eels
Rarotonga has around 6 different types of morays with some of the biggest Giant Morays to be seen anywhere.
