Description:
In Dahab beach- rather than boat- diving is the norm. The reefs in Dahab Bay are found between Lagona Village and the Novotel. At Assalah several good sites past the Lighthouse can be found. But the main diving attractions are 7-8km up the coast where you can find the Eel Garden, Canyon and Blue Hole dive sites. The Canyon is a dark, narrow fissure. The coral wall sinks to a depth of 50m. There’s plenty to see at the top of the reef for snorkellers. Further north lies the Blue Hole. Diving the Blue Hole is dangerous as the spectacular 80m deep shaft in the reef involves a challenging descending of 60m and then swimming through a narrow passage to come up the other side.
Dive Centers offer day-long dive safaris to the Ras Abu Galum protected area with three diving beaches or Naqb Shahin with fantastic coral and gold fish or Ras el-Mamlah Dive safaris by jeeps and by camel are available.
The number of dive centers in Dahab is growing rapidly. A few years ago there were no more than five or six centers, now there are about twenty-five.
Visitors who go to Dahab should keep in mind that there is not a system in place with streetnames and housenumbers, so they should ask locals for directions when searching for divecenters. It helps to know which divecenter you'd like to visit, before arriving there. | | | Details: |
